Research Accelerator
This accelerator for young women scholars in STEM is a high-impact, cohort-based program designed to equip emerging women researchers with the skills, networks, and resources needed to thrive in scientific and technological fields. Built around a blend of hands-on research experience, professional development, and sustained mentorship, the accelerator aims to close gender gaps in STEM by supporting participants at a critical early stage of their careers.
-
The program’s activities center on providing young women scholars in STEM with a comprehensive, immersive research and professional growth experience. Each participant engages in a mentored research project, working closely with an expert to design and carry out an original line of inquiry. Through this hands-on project, scholars learn to refine research questions, apply appropriate methodologies, analyze data, and communicate their findings.
-
Complementing this research experience is a robust skills-building curriculum that develops both technical and transferable competencies. Workshops and informal training introduce participants to tools and techniques such as coding, data analysis, theory, methods, scientific writing, and effective presentation. These sessions ensure scholars gain the practical knowledge needed to excel in their fields.
-
Career development pathways are woven throughout the program, exposing scholars to the broad range of opportunities available in academia, industry, and government. Through speaker series, career panels, and personalized guidance, participants learn how to navigate graduate applications, fellowship opportunities, and early-career decision-making.
-
A strong focus on mentorship and community supports each scholar’s growth. Participants are paired with both senior and junior mentors, fostering long-term relationships that provide encouragement, accountability, and insight. Cohort activities and networking events help build a sense of belonging and empower scholars to see themselves as part of a larger STEM community.
-
Finally, leadership and confidence-building experiences are integrated throughout the accelerator. Emphasizing communication, collaboration, self-advocacy, and navigating bias in STEM, participants strengthen their leadership presence and develop the confidence needed to pursue ambitious academic and career goals.
